The Hunting industry is booming in Australia, with the vast majority of the country’s huntsmen employed by companies that are still part of the industry and are still profitable.
But as a new industry, there is a growing number of hunters who are unemployed.
And for some, that’s not good news.
“I’m just so happy to be out there, because I’m really in love with this job,” says Matt, who is unemployed for more than a year after a job in a construction company left him without a job.
Matt’s experience highlights the difficulties for people who are part of an industry that was once booming but has struggled to recover.
“The job market in Australia is tough,” he says.
“It’s very hard to do it full time. “
And I can’t even do it at all.” “

And I can’t even do it at all.”
He says he is now working for an Australian company that makes rope for construction projects, and is in the process of finding a new hunting job.
But he’s still unemployed.
“This is a job I’m going to miss,” he said.
“But it’s still good to be here.”
Some hunters are also finding it harder to get a job when their work is seasonal.
“When the hunting season’s over, it’s hard to find a job, because it’s such a low-paying job,” he explained.
“A lot of people don’t want to work at all when the season’s down.”
With unemployment at a record high, the jobless rate in Australia has reached 10.5 per cent, which means many people are struggling to find work.
“For me, it is the biggest challenge,” says Matthew.
“In my career I’ve been on the hunt for over 25 years, so I’ve never had that many years of unemployment.”
He explains he is also looking to expand his hunting business to the west coast of Australia.
But with a jobless economy, he says it is a difficult time for him.
“If you look at the job market, it isn’t really good,” he told ABC Radio.
“You’re just going to be seeing more and more people like me who have lost jobs.””
